Somali National Army said they repulsed an attacked by armed group al-Shabaab in Awdhegle in lower Shabelle region on Wednesday.
The group launched an attacked following two suicide car bombs that targeted a security checkpoint manned by the troops on Wednesday morning.
Three people were killed in the attack including two soldiers and A Somali Journalist from the army radio.
The agricultural town which 70 kilometre south of the capital, Mogadishu was recaptured by Somali special forces last week after years of al-Shabaab control.
The large scale offensive by the group comes as reports of possible injuries to group spokesman, Sheikh Ali Dheere emerged.
Somali military radio reported on Tuesday that Ali Dhere was wounded in an operation carried out by the troops in Sham village in lower Shabelle.
National army radio quoted local sources saying the Sheikh Ali Dhere was taken to Kuntuarey fot treatment but no official confirmation from the group
