At least two Kenya police officers have been killed and seven other officers were injured after their vehicle ran over in Khorfo-harar village of Wajir County.

According to Wajir County Police Commander Thomas Ngeywa, the explosion happened on Friday evening while the officers were on a routine patrol.

“I can confirm that our officers who were on a routine patrol were seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in hit an IED that had been planted along the route,” said Mr Ngeywa.

He stated that four of the officers sustained head injuries and three others had back and chest bruises.

Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the abduction of the tow people.

The group’s fighters have been carrying out attacks in Kenya since 2011, forcing the government of Kenya dispatch its troops to fight al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia.

Currently Kenya has thousands of troops working under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
