The President of Southwest state of Somalia, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta Gareen laid the foundation stone for the first public library in Baidoa on Saturday.

The project which is the brainchild of the organizers of the annual Baioda exhibition will be funded by initiatives of the local youth organization with support from some international partners including the Turkish International Cooperation Unit (TIKA).

Baidoa Exhibition is an annual event promoting culture, art, literature, and agriculture that was first held in the interim Southwest administrative capital in August last year.

The leader of Southwest state, Abdiaziz Lafta Garen has however urged the diaspora community from state across the globe to take part in the establishment of the first reading centre in the region.

President Lafta Gareen added that such initiatives will boost education efforts in the area.

Somalia has in the past years registered increasing education promotional events spearheaded by young people in the country in an effort to encourage learning.

Almost all regional state administrative headquarters have annual book fairs with Las’anod being the latest to organize the event in December last year.
