Delegates from Galmudug regional state of Somalia have embarked on the selection of regional assembly parliamentary members ahead of the presidential elections later this month.
According to the state media, Radio Mogadishu, the delegates and tribal leaders converged in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital ahead of the selection process.
The representatives from various groups concluded election and democratic process capacity building in order to smoothly conduct the long-awaited process.
Regional election technical team has urged the delegates to elect the new members of the regional parliament based on their educational merit.
Twenty members of the new assembly were allocated to the Ahlu Suna Wal Jama group following a previous agreement between the Federal government and the Sufi religious group.
A delegation led by Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre returned from the state following a visit to assess the process.
Galmudug regional state Presidential elections are scheduled before the end of January.
