Somalia’s Upper House of parliament has on Tuesday approved the amended media bill.
The bill which was on its third reading was previously approved by the Lower House of parliament before sent to the Upper House which is equivalent to the house of the senate.
The members extensively debated the contentious articles in the crucial bill in the presence of the chair of House Information committee, senator Ahmed Moalim Omar and the Minister for Information, Mohamed Hayir Mareye.
Following the vote by show of hands, 23 members out of 27 presented approved the bill whereas three opposed while the remaining one abstained and thus sending the press bill to the next stage.
Somali media law has been coming back and forth to and from parliament to media experts since 2015.
