Somaliland President Muse Bihi is reportedly expected to meet various African presidents and heads of government in Ethiopia in a visit which coincides with the 33rd Summit of the Continental body.
Bihi alongside a delegation of ministers and other senior government officials arrived in Addis Ababa Sunday. Somali President Mohamed Farmaajo also arrived in the Ethiopian capital the same day.
It was not immediately clear if Bihi’s visit to Ethiopia was on invite from the 55 member bloc meeting which ran started Sunday and concluded today.
Somaliland which broke away from Somalia in early 1990s and declared independence remains unrecognized as an independent state but has maintained closer relations with Ethiopia and lately Kenya.
A meeting with heads of states and governments is a major boost for the Somaliland which has in the last close to three decades established a functioning government and managed its own affairs largely independent of Somalia.
