Ahlu-Sunna leader agrees to hand over his militias to Somali army

Leaders of Ahlu-Sunna Waljama have agreed handed over vehicles and its forces  to Somali government in Dhusameeb town in Galgaduud region.

In a press conference, Ahlu-Sunna Waljama chief, Sheikh Mohamed declared that he agreed to handover his militias to commander General Masood Mohamed Warsame.

“We have decided to have our forces to Somali national army and in return General Masood will take responsibility for the safety of ASWJ members and their clerics,” he said.

The group has handed over eight vehicles with large tripod machine gun mounted on them.

The move came barely a day after heavy fighting broke out in Dhusamareb and Guriel towns.

The fighting which was between Somali military and militias loyal to Ahlu-Sunna Waljama has led to deaths as both sides marshalled reinforcements.

There were multiple unverifiable accounts on how the fighting started but sources said Somalia army launched an attack at Inji compound Friday morning leading to the fights.
