SNA kills eight al-Shabaab fighters in Hiiraan

Somali National Army (SNA) said its forces killed eight al-Shabaab fighters following heavy clashes in central Somalia.

According to a statement, military officials confirmed that the forces staged operations in a village on the outskirts of Beledweyne town, Hiiraan region.

The military confirmed that the forces recaptured the village.

In separate, speaking to the media, the commander of 5th battalion of SNA’s 27th section, Salah Yakub said the forces will continue to liberate villages under al-Shabaab.

“We have liberated the village, we are planning to extend the operations to smoke the group from region,” he said.

He called on the locals to collaborate with the forces to defeat al-Shabaab in the region.
“We urge the public to share the information about al-Shabaab with Somali forces, we need to stabilize the region,” he said.

Al-Shabaab has been several villages in Hiiraan region for several years before Somali military backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) defeated the group’s fighters.
