The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has confirmed the death of former al-Shabaab Amniyat chief responsible for Banadir region.
In its official tweeter handle, NISA said Muse Maalim was killed in the al-Shabaab controlled town of Bu’ale in the middle Jubba region.
Moalim resigned from the position earlier according to Somali Intelligence.
His successor Omar Mohamed was also arrested by the group and is in custody as per the direction of al-Shabaab powerful unit commander Ahmed Dirie.
It is not immediately clear the reason behind this latest killing inside the group fighting to topple internationally-backed Federal Government of Somalia but the group has previously killed members including high ranking officials that it suspects are disloyal to its operations.
In September 2013, US National Omar Hammami alias Abu Mansour al Amiriki was killed by the group in Gedo region days after he gave an interview to VOA following cutting ties with the group.
