Somali military said its killed twelve al-shabaab fighters following heavy clashes in the outskirts of Baidoa town of Bay region.
The commander of 60th battalion of Somali army, Mohamed Sheikh Abdullahi told the state own media that al-shabaab fighters stormed SNA base in Daynuunay village, prompting hours of fighting.
He stated the forces repelled the attack and manage to defeat the fighters.
“The soldiers killed number of al-shabaab fighters, so far we have counted ten bodies, the rest of the fighters fled with heavy casualties,” he said.
The commander vowed that the army will soon launch operations to hunt down al-shabaab fighters in the region.

Shabaab control number villages in the region as it lost major towns including Baidoa, Burhakaba, Hudur, Wajid and other to SNA forces.
Following heavy military operations by Somali army, the group opted hit and run tactics.
Shabaab which once was powerful group had lost almost all its territories including the capital after their fighters were defeated by Somali army backed by AMISOM.
