Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre held phone conversation with the Russian Foreign Minister, Segrey Lavrov on Monday.
The discussions focused on bolstering diplomatic ties according to the office of the Prime Minister.
The phone talks also focused on cooperation between the two former soviet allies focused on efforts to contain Coronavirus pandemic.
“Pleased to have had an important telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister H.E Sergey Lavrov today. Key issues discussed include bolstering diplomatic relations and cooperating in efforts to contain #Covid19 pandemic.” Somali Premier revealed in a tweet.
Moscow had close diplomatic relations boosted by military base in Berbera before the collapse of the central government led by General Mohamed Siyad Barre in early 1990s.
In a new effort to renew ties Russia named new ambassador for Somalia in early 2018.
