Former Somali National Basketball player passed away in a London hospital after contracting Covid-19, said Sport minister.
Baana Abdulle Ali was admitted at a hospital, succumbed to the disease on Monday evening.
He had been undergoing treatment for two weeks after testing positive.
The player becomes the second national player to be lost to the coronavirus in less than a month.
In a Facebook post, Somali minister, Khadar Diriye condoled with the families of the player over his demise.
“On behalf of the ministry and Somali government, we extend condolences to Somalia people over the death of the national hero, specifically, we extend our condolences to family and friends,” Somali Sports minister, Khadija Diriye said.
Former basketball player who was in late 40s was the head of external relations of Somali Basketball Association.
