Somalia repatriates 125 citizens stranded in Saudi Arabia

A plane carrying 125 Somali citizens from Saudi Arabia touched down in Somali capital, Mogadishu on Tuesday evening.

The nationals were part of 581 nationals repatriated by the government in a week from various destination following the COVID 19 lockdown in the world.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has directed the ministry of foreign affairs to coordinate with diplomatic missions across the globe to facilitate the return of citizens affected by the coronavirus lockdown following an appeal for help.

Several citizens returned home from countries like Turkey, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia.

Somalia’s embassy in Sudan called upon citizens willing to return back home affected by the lock-down to submit their details for facilitation back home.

The interested citizens in affected countries were however directed to undergo corona-virus tests to determine their status as health protocols by the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation.
