The leaders of Somalia’s regional states are expected to meet in Dhusamareb on Thursday to discuss contentious national issues surrounding the upcoming elections.
A joint statement by the leadership of Galmudug, Puntland, Hirshabelle, Jubbaland and Southwest state agreed to converge in Dhusamareb the administrative capital of Galmudug state following online deliberations.
“The leadership of the Federal Member States in the country thus President Saed Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, President Ahmed Ali Kariye Qorqor of Galmudug, President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta Garen of Southwest, President Ahmed Mohamed Islam of Jubbaland and President Mohamed Abdi Ware of Hirshabelle held discussions online and agreed to converge in a meeting to discuss key pressing national issues including elections on 9th July.” The statement said.
The Press release further noted that the meeting in Dhusamareb will be also a consultation forum before the upcoming national security council meeting set in Mogadishu before the end of the month.
“The meeting will also deliberate on an urgent meeting between the two levels of government in the country.”
The national security council meeting which was planned to kick off from 5th – 8th July was rescheduled for an undisclosed date.
