Somali National Army have neutralized five al-Shabaab militants in Awdinle town in Bay region.
Awdinle administrator, Ibrahim Mohamed Nur confirmed the attack saying several other fighters were wounded during the attack.
The troops repulsed the attack launched by the militants on the bases of the troops.
Several attempts by the group to retake the strategic town didn’t succeed as joint SNA and Southwest regional forces pushed them back.
The group has stepped up attacks against Somali armed forces since an offensive by the troops backed by the AMISOM forces recaptured several key areas previously controlled by the group mainly in the Lower Shabelle region.
The attack comes days after five people were killed and scores others wounded in an IED blast in Baidoa, the interim administrative capital of Southwest on Saturday.
The blast which resulted from an improvised explosive device [IED] concealed in the restaurant exploded in the early morning.
The authorities urged the members of the public to be extra vigilant and report suspicious activities to the security agencies.
