About 20 militants from the armed group al-Shabaab have attacked and destroyed the Safaricom communication mast in the Korakora area, in Garissa County on Thursday.
According to the local residents, the fighters were repulsed by the security officers manning the facility.
No casualties were reported during the encounter.
The attack comes a day after Kenyan security agencies foiled an attack where the group hijack a private vehicle with eight occupants in Dabasiti in Mandera country.
Northern Kenya region police boss Rono Brunei said the security agencies have stepped up operations in the volatile region to enhance security.
Kenya experienced a wave of attacks from al Shabaab inform of explosive attacks targeting security agencies since its troop’s incursion inside southern Somalia in late 2011.
Kenyan Defense Forces have since been integrated into African Union forces AMISOM to take part in the peacekeeping missions in the horn of the Africa nation.
