Somalia’s Minister of Health and Social Services Dr. Fawzia Abikar Nur has on Tuesday signed the National Immunization Policy.
The new procedure will play a significant role in the development and delivery of immunization services by the health sector to Somali children.
Polio immunization campaigns remain paused across the country in light of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Officials said they are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely to ensure that as soon as the situation is deemed epidemiologically stable, they will resume the planning and implementation of the mOPV2 case response, which has been postponed since March 2020.
Last week, the Somali Parliament has also unanimously approved the National Health Professionals Council (NHPC) Act which is very important towards the regulation of the health professional sector in the country.
The health sector in Somalia is among the institutions affected by the aftermath of the civil war in the country but the significant sector has experienced drastic reforms in the past years by the Federal Government in order to provide quality services provision.
