Somali Parliament calls for urgent probe into Mogadishu rape cases

Somali parliament has called immediate transparent investigation into rape and sodomy cases in Somali capital.

Last week, a 20-year-old woman, identified as Hamdi Mohamed Farah was allegedly gang-raped and thrown to death from a high-rise building in Mogadishu.

Just hours after the heinous act, armed sodomised a young boy in a displaced person’s camp in Mogadishu.

The police have arrested number of suspects links the incidents.

Speaking to the media, Somali parliament speaker, Mohamed Mursal Sheikh has directed the security agencies to launch investigation while urging the security ministry to explain what motivated these acts.

“We want the ministry to give full information about what happened and measures taken to prevent imminent same incidents in the city,” he said.

Two men who were said to be in military on Friday broke into a house in Djibouti locality in Shangani district in Mogadishu.

The men allegedly defiled a young boy.

According to the mother who spoke to the media, two men broke into her house Friday night by cutting through the iron-sheet wall. “I peeped in a hole and saw two men in military uniform breaking into my house,” the mother only identified as Fardowsa said.

“I tip-toed out of the house leaving my son who was asleep. One of them fired in the air when he suspected people were coming around and fled.”
