The coalition of Somali opposition political parties has called to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to appoint Prime Minister urgently to fill the gap left by the Hassan Ali Khaire government.
The Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid has been on acting capacity since Hassan Ali Khaire was ousted by the parliament via a vote of no confidence 54 days ago.
The July 25 vote accused the Khaire government of failing to fulfill national pledges including a plan for democratic one man one vote elections, unable to improve security, and deterring economy.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Forum for National Parties (FNP) led by a former head of state Hassan Sheikh Mohamud termed the appointment of caretaker premier as illegal under the constitution.
“The Forum for National Parties (FNP) considers it irresponsible and dictatorial for the country to be without a government for 53 days, and the government is in the hands of the president for personal gain.” The statement noted.
