Somali PM and UN envoy discuss priorities ahead of elections

Somalia’s new Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has Sunday met with the UN envoy to Somalia, James Swan, in Mogadishu.

The high-level meeting discussed the latest development in security, peacebuilding, and economic development.

The meeting also briefed on the progress made ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in November and the long-awaited presidential polls in February next year.

“UN envoy was honored to meet with Somalia’s new Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to discuss shared priorities of governance and human rights, security, and peacebuilding, as well as social and economic development,” UNSOM confirmed.

Somalia and UN Sign new five years’ cooperation pact last week.

The new pact sets out how the country and the world body will work together over the next five years to achieve peace, stability, and prosperity for all Somalis.

The UNCF will replace a similar, previous agreement – the UN Strategic Framework (UNSF) – which expires at the end of this year.
