Armed men raided a police station in Las-Anod town Monday and whisked away three murder suspects, police said.
A police officer told journalists in the town that the men suspected to be clan militias and numbering about ten stormed the station brandishing weapons and overpowered the officers on duty.
According to police, the assailants were on a mission to rescue three suspects who were being held at the station on murder charges.
The suspects, police said had recently killed two people in the town and were awaiting charges.
The suspected militias reportedly crossed into Ethiopia with the detainees.
It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties during the attack.
