UN envoy in Dhusamareb to discuss election security

The UN envoy in Somalia ambassador James Swan has arrived in Dhusamareb, the Galmudug state capital on Tuesday.

Ambassador Swan was welcomed by Galmudug leader Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qorqor. The two accompanied by AU special representative and head of AMISOM ambassador Nicholas Madeira and other officials from the European Union and IGAD held talks with President Qorqor.

The discussion focused on upcoming national elections, beefing up the security and co-operation between Federal Government and regional state leadership.

The meeting resolved the need for continuous cooperation between both sides on issues of mutual interest.

“Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia James Swan reaches today in #Galmudug State of Somalia. The delegation spearheaded by James Swan was warmly received by GM All focused on upcoming national elections, beefing up the security & co-operation of FGS & FMS.” President Qorqor’s office confirmed.

Somalia is scheduled to conduct parliamentary elections before the end of the year while presidential elections in February next year.
