Former Somali FM appointed special envoy

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, has appointed ambassador Yusuf-Garaad Omar as a Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday.

Statement from the head of the state office directed ambassador Yusuf to continue to play a leading role in the horn of Africa’s joint regional initiatives, based on regional co-operation, economic, security, and political integration.

“It is important that our long-term plan is based on re-establishing our country’s role in the region, which we have achieved in recent years with significant contributions to stability and development in the region.” The president noted in the letter of appointment.

The President further highlighted the vast knowledge and experience of ambassador Yusuf-Garaad on international issues serving as a former Foreign Minister and former United Nations Ambassador to New York.

He wished him well in the diplomatic task, ahead while urging to maintain the integrity as a representative of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
