Somali forces arrest Kenya wanted terror suspect near Somalia-Kenya border

Somali forces have arrested arrested Abdullahi Ahmed Dimbil who is suspected be the mastermind of a 2015 Bus attack in Mandera country near Kenya’s border with Somalia.

Strategic Intelligence, an online publication, reported that Dimbil was arrested on Monday together with one of his associates outside the Jubbaland Security Forces camp in Dhobley town.

Director of Kenya Counter-Terrorism, National Security and Intelligence Analysis David Goldman said Dimbil who hails from Kutulo, Wajir County in North Eastern Kenya is a top officer of al-Shabaab group.

The publication said that the suspect was a financier of terrorist activities as he held revenue for Al-Shabaab estimated to be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Kenya’s northeastern region has been borne the brunt of grenade and gun attacks in the last several years since Kenya took its troops to Somalia to fight the al-Shabaab group.

Al-Shabaab group has been attacking areas along Kenya-Somalia border while targeting mostly non- locals working in the region.

Many people, majority of them non- locals have as a result lost their lives with others left with permanent injuries.

The group vowed to continue staging attacks on Kenya’s soil until the East Africa nation withdraws from Somalia.

Kenya had sent its troops to Somalia in 2011 to fight al-Shabaab following several attacks in Kenya’s coastal region allegedly conducted by the terror group.
