UN envoy in Dhusamareeb to hold talks with Galmudug leader

James Swan and Ahmed Abdi Kariye

High level UN delegation has today arrived in Dhusamareeb, the administrative capital of Galmudug state in central Somalia.

The delegation which led by James Swan, UN envoy to Somalia was received at the airport by Galmudug officials.

Swan and his delegation are expected to meet with Galmudug leader Ahmed Abdi Kariye.

Sources privy to the meeting confirmed that the sides will be discussing wide range issues including election impasse and UN development projects in the state.

UN and other International partners of Somalia have recently been trying to mediate Somali government and the opposition leaders in the country.

Opposition parties have rejected the election committee appointed by president Mohamed Abdullahi, claiming some spy agents and civil servants were included in the list.

The country is expected to hold elections this year as president Farmajo’s term lapses on 8th February.
