A renowned Somali musician Fatuma Ali Nakruma has passed away in Somali capital after being infected with coronavirus, Somali government confirmed Sunday.
In a statement, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble who confirmed the death of Nakruma has extended condolences to family and relatives of the singer.
“His Excellency Prime Mohamed H Roble sends his deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Somali artist Faduma Ali Nakruuma who passed away in de Martini hospital in Mogadishu on Sunday morning,” the statement by the premier’s office reads in part.
Nakruma returned from Canada recently where she had been living since 1991 when she fled Somalia after the fall of the central government led by Mohamed Siyad Barre.
She toured the world alongside other legendary singers such as Maryam Mursal, Ahmed Naji Sa’aad, Said Ali, as a leading member in Waaberi – a Somali musical super-group that was established by the Somali government as part of the National Theatre of Somalia.
