Somalia has Sunday registered 280 new coronavirus infections out 1,966 samples that were tested in the past 24 hours.

The ministry of health said, a total of 8,321 cases have been confirmed since mid March last year when the country recorded its first case.

36 more people were reported to have recovered from the disease, hence the total number of recoveries is now at 3,968.

Unfortunately, 8 people have succumbed to coronavirus in the country, the total number of fatalities now being 302.

Somalia is yet to begin innoculating its people but is set to receive 1.2 million doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the delivery of the Indian-made vaccine was on its way to Somalia.

“Reaching across the Indian Ocean. Made in India vaccines arriving in Somalia,” the external affairs minister said in a tweet.’
